To be a referee for the GBSOA and, in part, for AHSAA, you have to fulfill some requirements every year.
- Paid AHSAA Fees – Paid on www.dragonflymax.com
- Paid GBSOA Dues (waived for 1st year)
- Passed the AHSAA Test – Take on www.dragonflymax.com
- Attended 2 GBSOA meetings
New Referees
In addition to the above, new referees need:
- Buy uniform. Please see our Uniform Policy to learn more about it.
- Shorts: Must be in black and have no visible USSF logo. Small, uniform supplier-related logo is fine.
- Referee Shirt: Must be the orange or green shirts (from Smitty)
- Flags: Standard assistant-referee flags will suffice
- Socks: Must be the Smitty-supplier related.
- Whistle: Can be bought in many places — we strongly recommend the Fox 40 brand.
- Cards: Red and yellow cards.
- Watch: A digital watch to keep track of time.
- Referees between first and third year of membership must attend the Referee Workshop in January.
Referee Workshop
The January Clinic Jamboree is something that all referees, with 3 or less years of experience, must be attend in order to get first-hand experience with NFHS refereeing, duals and the small changes you may be use doing USSF games.
